Uniforms Plus
Professionals come in many shapes and sizes, and are entitled to be able to purchase a uniform that fits them and feels comfortable. Many companies now offer uniforms plus sized through an online retail store to clients in a variety of industries and professions. These companies are usually privately owned.
Some of these companies aim to provide uniforms plus-sized for professionals in law enforcement and the security services, as well as for doctors, nurses, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), paramedics, other medical personnel and firefighters. Also available are larger-sized uniforms for industrial workers and for corporate personnel. There are also plus-sized school uniforms for students.
For the law enforcement professional, a company may stock a wide range of garments for uniforms plus sized that can be worn on the job. Popular items are tactical short-sleeve and long-sleeve shirts, jackets, 4-pocket coats, pants, protective vests and more. Like normal sized clothing, larger sized pants are usually available in several different colors: for example, roper pants often come in colors black, grey, dark grey, olive, khaki, sheriff’s brown and dark navy. The legs are often adjustable using drawstrings. Also popular are cargo pants with an adjustable waist and come in woodland camouflage or 3-color desert camouflage. Plus-sized clothes usually go from size 20 to size 3XL and beyond, so there should be pants to fit almost everyone. Pants are sewn to military specification and are reinforced in the seat and knee so that the garment is more durable and will last longer. There are also plus-sized safety vests available for purchase. These are made of neon yellow polyester with reflective strips around the torso and over the shoulders, and have mic loops on the front, on the left and the right shoulder. They can be printed with “police” or “sheriff” on the back at the customer’s request. Shirts are long-sleeved and can be purchased as unisex for a looser fit or especially for women.
For medical personnel the range of uniforms plus-sized is less expansive than normal sized but still comprehensive. For nursing staff there are scrubs tops and pants in many colors and different styles. Tops may be contrast mock-wrap tops, snap front or V-neck. Pants come in a flair leg style. There are also warm-ups to be worn over scrubs. Paramedics can choose from loose EMT pants and deluxe long-sleeved or short-sleeved shirts. Firemen can also buy EMT pants, as well as 4-pocket fire pants, which are treated after manufacture to keep them comfortable and have pockets on the top front and back hip. There are also plus-sized 4-pocket shorts available for wear in warmer environments. Reflective firefighter’s workshirts are made with reflective tape around the sleeves and are made of cotton for a softer feel.
Being of an uncommon size should not inhibit a professional’s ability to purchase smart and appropriate clothing for work. Uniforms plus sized are a customer-friendly option that ensures everyone will be able to find garments to fit them, while appearing smart and well-presented. |
