The Various Types of Uniforms Clothes
If you look around our society today, uniforms are everywhere. They are a means of belonging to a group, and of showing that you belong to it. It was once the case that uniforms clothes were only used by the military and the police services. Today, industries as varied as the service industry and construction, and workers as varied as nurses in the medical services and office workers, wear uniforms. Some uniform outfits can be made up of many different garments.
School uniforms’ clothes are usually designed so that the student wearing the uniform can mix and match garments depending on the season and their personal preference. At some schools, boys can choose between wearing a blazer or a sweatshirt, or just a shirt with a tie. Some girls have the choice between wearing a skirt, skort or a dress, depending on whether it is summer or winter. They may choose to wear tights if it is cold, or socks if it is warm. Some schools let their female students wear either a skirt or pants like those worn by male students. School uniforms are democratizing: children with poor or unfashionable garments do not need to fear that they will be bullied. A school uniform, rather than stifling the imagination, can encourage children to rebel, as seen in the way that schoolchildren will alter their uniforms to make them more individual, such as shortening skirts.
We think of doctors as always wearing a white coat, and this is generally true. However, there is a certain degree of flexibility in their uniforms clothes. A doctor is not required to wear a white coat is when she or he is involved in operations. Instead, surgical doctors wear scrubs which are usually green or blue, although in some hospitals other colors may be worn. Introduced in the 1950s, these were intended to reduce the eye strain caused by the bright lights of the operating theatre shining on white fabric, and because patients are most disturbed by blood stains on white fabric. On the wards, doctors wear the white coat, but women may choose to wear a skirt or pants, according to individual preference.
The modern uniform of a nurse was adapted from the habits worn by nuns, who cared for the ill in the times before the role of a nurse existed. At first, nurses were required to wear a starched pinafore. However, today the uniforms’ clothes include skirts, pants, dresses, scrubs tops and pants and many other garments. Nurses are required to appear smart, professional and clean at all times. The way that nurses look does vary widely between medical establishments, depending on the code of dress put in place by the authorities.
Allowing employees a degree of choice in their uniforms’ clothes is a good way to allow them freedom, flexibility and individuality without sacrificing the benefits brought by wearing a uniform. Professionals who all wear the same colors can still look unified, even if there are a variety of different garments being worn.
