Shirt Making Company

Make Your Own Shirt Making Company

There are many potential business ideas out there. Several promise the support of an established franchise, but come with a high price tag.  Some opportunities offer high returns, but little in the way of support or true workable business plans.  Some opportunities are there just to make money by selling you the idea of making money. Nothing much ever comes from them. It is always better to start with yourself in the business process.

Take a look at things you are familiar with and what you current talents and resources are.  One of the commonly overlooked areas most people are familiar with is their clothing. We have all worn clothes all of our lives: everyday living clothes, special occasion clothes, and work clothes.  You know a lot about how these should look and who buys them. Ever wonder who prints them? You have strong common knowledge of clothing, so why not start a shirt making company.

When you decide to start a shirt making company, you have to choose what niche you want to work in.  Do you want to make the clothes or just sell them? Do you want to design the clothes or actually print them? What kind of clothes do you want to handle: children’s clothes, work clothes, casual clothes, or maybe costumes?  Once you choose a niche, you need to research the market for that niche. Is there room for a small start up either in your area or on the internet? Is there an expanding market or specialty within that niche that you could exploit?  Next, look at where you can fit in process of making, designing, printing, or selling the shirts.

Another consideration in starting a shirt making company is how much capital you have to work with. You need to assess all of the start-up costs with the business like overhead, materials, labor, advertising, and other business related expenses.   Ideally, you want to have at least a year’s worth of working capital in case you don’t make a dime for a whole year of work.  With these considerations, you should develop a business plan that you can take to lenders or investors to secure the necessary capital.  Using other people’s money is always better than using your own. Realize that investors may want to have input into the business, so choose you investors wisely.

Many companies in this field focus on printing and embroidering shirts for corporations and groups. A shirt making company can make a nice living on the printing portion of the process. They don’t have to lay in a large supply of raw materials. Instead, they order what they need from wholesalers and do not risk taking a loss on excess inventory.  Print business is made up of a good deal of residual business.  People pay for screens and come back to the same printer each year to avoid paying for new screens.

Like any company, a shirt making company is successful based on customer service. Always listen to the customer and you will have you greatest chance for success.
