Postal Uniforms

One of the organizations that we deal with every day is the USPS and the employees of the postal service.  Whether you are in the post office or see them making their rounds there is no doubt of who they are or what they are doing.  Their dress blues are one of the most well known uniforms out there today.  Third perhaps to law enforcement and medical personnel the postal officer is one of the most recognized professions in which a uniform is worn.  Postal uniforms take on many different looks but the tell-tall USPS  insignia always pulls it together.  When you see that, you know who you are looking at and what they do for a living.

In the last few years those in the retail offices have been able to dress a bit differently than before.  They still have to wear a shirt that has the USPS emblem on it but they don’t always have to wear the shorts or pants that go with it.  Postal uniforms are very varied by part of the country.  It is not that the uniform changes holistically but that the climate is so different in different places that the emphasis needs to be on different things.

The shirt of the postal uniform is usually short sleeved and button down with pleats and or press marks that make it look very crisp.  The short sleeve shirt is favored in the southern states for sure and rarely if ever will the employees in those states need to wear the long sleeved shirt.  The long sleeved shirt has the same basic configuration as the short sleeved.  Each has the USPS emblem and each is the same color as all the USPS uniforms.  Postal uniforms tend to run a blue gray and are the same color no matter what part of the country you are in.

For inclement weather there are a number of postal uniforms that the carrier can choose between.  There is quite a selection of cold weather gear starting with the long sleeved shirt.   On top of that you could wear the long sleeved sweater and put the USPS jacket or coat on top of that.  There are also USPS issued hats (some with ear flaps (you might want them in North Dakota in the winter) as well as USPS issued gloves.  For those in the warm weather there is not only the short sleeved shirt but also shorts instead of longer pants.

Postal uniforms are as varied as the part of the country the employees are from.  For the very wet south there are jumpsuit rain gear outfits, for the cold north there is winter gear and outer wear.  And for all parts of the country the USPS has specific footwear that you can also wear if you work with them.  Of course the footwear is such that you will be the most comfortable as possible as you go about your day.  There are only USPS sponsored/cleared vendors that you can get this official equipment from.  If you do not work for the USPS you will not be able to order any of this stuff for your personal use.
