Medical Uniforms
For those that work in the medical field one of the things that goes right along with it is the fact that you have to wear some type of uniform. Medical uniforms are almost an expected sight when people walk into a doctor’s office or a hospital. For the patient it is almost comforting to see the doctor wearing either his lab coat or his scrubs when he greets them. It is almost like the police, you believe that they are who they say they are by the clothes that they wear. Patients want to see what they expect to see and that is a professional dressed in the way we expect them to.
Of course television hasn’t helped the concept of medical uniforms. Whenever you watch a medical show or a law show you see all types of scenes that then influence our conception of what the professional should wear or not. Luckily for the shows the way they are portraying medical professionals is very often close to the reality of what medical personal wear in real life. The lab coat might get a bit more air time than it deserves but for the most part the portrayal is close to correct.
There are many different styles of medical uniforms. The two that are worn the most are the lab coat with suit underneath or the scrubs which is by far the more popular for those who like to dress with comfort and functionality. Either way that you go you will find a great selection of either to choose from. Scrubs will usually come with a top and pants. They are a cross between sweats and loose fitting pajama’s in look. They are about as comfortable too. They will sometimes have pockets into the pants and perhaps have a breast pocket in the top as well.
Scrubs are the most successful medical uniforms in terms of commercial success and profitability. Their functionality makes it possible for them to cross over from the medical field and they are sought after by the general public too. They have enough mass appeal that they are considered fashionable and functional by children, teens, adults as well as the medical profession that they were originally designed for. As they get more and more diverse with style, print, size and functionality they sell more and more to those in the public. Scrubs are in.
There are a number of other medical uniforms too that you can choose from. They are also functional if not as comfortable. The lab coat is probably the second most favorite uniform to wear but is very popular with doctors in particular. The coat is normally white in color and has buttons. There are also some form fitting lab coats that have hit the market that are designed more like a suit jacket that is much more tailored in look and feel. Between these options you are sure to find the uniform that is right for you. So think about the one you want and the one you’ll get the most out of and go for it.
