Lab Coats Uniforms for Medical Professionals
You see them all over. You can walk into the x-ray diagnostic center and your technician is probably wearing one. You walk into the pharmacy of your local store and the pharmacist is probably wearing one too. Of course when you go see your doctor, if he is wearing anything other than a suit and tie it will be one of these as well. Lab coats uniforms are very very popular with the professional medical, technician and research personnel. This uniform which is both functional and professional seems to work for most of those in these types of positions b because it places the employee to be the most sterile and clean as they can be.
Doctors especially like lab coats uniforms. They allow them to look very professional with their shirt and tie underneath but they also allow for much functionality from a work perspective. Have you ever looked to see what your doctor carries around with him? He’s got the pen, the prescription pad, and some miscellaneous cards perhaps for the most likely referrals he makes. Sometimes he carries his stethoscope in one of the larger pockets. Soon his lab coat is a walking briefcase and allows for him to have free hands to examine patients and write up charts. Most doctors like these coats.
Technicians also tend to use these coats. When you walk into any diagnostic center you will be faced with two distinct uniforms. You have those who prefer scrubs and you have those that prefer lab coats uniforms. It is usually a matter of personal preference but it also can sometimes be requirements based on the place they work and the job they do. In most cases it is the more highly professional that are required to wear these. Such professionals include pharmacists, doctors, and others that regularly have to portray a professional image to the public. Most of them will alternate between scrubs and the coats depending on what they have on their colander that day.
Think of your doctor. After surgery he will come up to your bed in his scrubs still and talk to you about what happened and how you did. The next day when he makes his rounds on the floor he will have on his lab coat. It’s just a different perspective depending on where he is that day. Lab coats uniforms are almost always white so they also give the appearance of cleanliness and sanitation (whether or not that is actually true is another story). When you are in a hospital that is the image you want portrayed.
Lab coats are not limited to the medical profession. They are also used in any type of work where it is important to stay sanitary and clean. Research departments, drug companies, blood labs and all these types of places will usually have employees wearing lab coats uniforms. Most employees like them for their functionality as well. Many of these labs have to be kept cooler for the research being conducted; the lab coat tends to keep them a bit warmer than scrubs can so the functionality is appreciated.
