Lab Coat Uniforms

When you work in science and especially in a lab one of the things that you know is that you don’t want to taint anything.  It is important that you are as germ free and as neat as you can possibly be so that you can be confident that everything you do is as sterile as it can be.  Lab coat uniforms are very popular for this.  Many people in the medical field, the research field as well as technicians in x-ray and other areas tend to lean toward the lab coat if they do not go for scrubs.  In these fields the choice for clothing will come down to these two choices.

Lab coats tend to be comfortable and warm.  You will find that any employee that works in a cooler environment (such as where cooling machinery is necessary) will opt for the coat since it will keep them warmer.  In additionally lab coat uniforms give the option of choosing whatever you want to wear underneath whereas scrubs basically give you limited selection.  The lab coat is very functional and can fill many needs as you go through your day.  It is one of the reasons they are so well liked.

Working around people and in and out of what are normally sterile conditions, lab coat uniforms afford a number of places to hold things you might need because of the pockets that all of them have.  Actually having the space in the pockets is one of the reasons why doctors choose to get out of their scrubs as soon as they can and get the jacket on.  Additionally the lab coat is made specifically for exactly that:  the lab.  People who work in labs prefer the coats for any number of reasons.  In some cases it is simply because they were given a dress code that included it.

Lab coats tend to be easy to take care of.  In most cases they are washable and do not need to be dry cleaned.  They are permanent press so there is not always a need to iron them either.  Lab coat uniforms are almost always white and in this case that can be a bit of a problem.  White is hard to keep clean and stains tend to show up more on white than just about any other color.  Using a good bleach is something that is probably important when cleaning the lab coat uniform.

Like all other uniforms, lab coat uniforms force you into dressing a certain way.  The lab coat is good for a number of things with comfort, warmth and functionality being a few of them.  The ability to keep things like thermometers, pens and prescription pads in the coat makes them very convenient for many doctors and lab workers.  In some cases they will be personalized with the name sewn right on the garment and in other cases a name tag will be used.  They almost always have a breast pocket which will hold a pen in many cases.  The typical lab coat will have buttons to close it up when needed.
