Jacket Uniforms

Many positions in the white color world require their staff to wear jackets.  These jackets are often accompanied by a specified color of pants and shirt that the employee then would have to supply.  Most jacket uniforms are used to give off a certain level of professionalism in the job that the employee is performing.  When people see an employee in a jacket they automatically consider it a professional job and the employee a professional representative of their company.  Jackets give a certain message to the general public and therefore are used almost exclusively by companies that have employees that will be seen by the public.

Think about all those employees that you see in a jacket.  You have the doorman at the hotel, as you go in the hotel you have the receptionist that checks you in, you have the bell boy and this is just in a hotel.  For many of these jobs the only supplied item that they have is the jacket with guidelines given to them on the rest of what they can wear.  Jacket uniforms are very different than other uniforms in that they need to fit very well to look good.  The jacket is often ordered using very specific sizes so that they fit as closely as they can.

The majority of the jacket uniforms will have a few common items.  In most cases they will not have the name sewn into them; instead the employee will have a pin with their name on it.  They also might not have the name of the company on them either.  Whether or not there is a badge on the top of the arm or not will depend on who the employee is and what they are representing.  The door man might have a badge with the name of the hotel on it; the clerk down at the phone store might not have anything on theirs. 

Jacket uniforms present a different cleaning problem since the majority of them need to be dry cleaned.  Many employees cannot afford the dry cleaning cost for their job so the company will provide dry cleaning services.  To do this the employee needs to be issued two jackets at the least so they have another one available while the one is being cleaned.  There are a few ways that the employer can do this, they can send them out with a vendor or if they have the facilities they can dry clean them in house.

The white color service section is where you will find the majority of the usage of jacket uniforms.  The desire to keep the staff uniform in look as well as professional in attire is what usually draws the employer to use this type of uniform.  They are becoming a bit rarer as the cost is more expensive and a good collared shirt might do the same thing and cost half the price.  However in some industries there is an expectation for a jacket on the employee and this is bound to stay that way for a while.
