Set Up Your Own Internet Shirt Company
Many people are looking for new opportunities to either supplement their careers or switch to entirely new ones. Additionally, stories appear every day about young people and old making millions over night on internet based businesses. It is only natural that people feel inclined to check out the work from home world that the internet seems to tout. For a long time the problem was consumer confidence. People did not believe in the security of the internet enough to give out their credit cards, so they would shop online, but buy at a store. The internet shirt company got a lot of hits, but not much cash flow.
Things have changed a great deal in the last 10 years. The buying habits have almost reversed themselves with the online stores threatening the existence of the on- ground stores. People have much more confidence in internet security now. People actually do their banking and pay their bills online. A growing percentage are getting direct deposit and never putting their hands on their money physically at all. So, why doesn’t every internet business just make money hand over fist? A lot of the same reasons exist for internet business failures as they do for on-ground shops: mismanagement, poor marketing, or an unwanted product. One thing the internet business must deal with that is unique is the match between the product and the distribution channel. There are some things people are comfortable buying sight unseen and some they are not. Some of those calls are easy, while others are more elusive. For example, the internet shirt company of today might make it if it sells well known brands. The site might struggle, however, if they sell off brands whose quality is unknown as well.
The internet shirt company may also struggle due to sheer traffic volume. The internet is getting to be a crowded place. Thousands of competitors enter the fray every day. You never know who is nibbling at your market share or even if your voice is being heard at all. On-ground businesses tend to be more local and can read the local paper or drive around and know what their competition is doing.
Another marketing challenge for the internet shirt company and others like it is global marketing. They can’t just advertise and do business in their local language. They would miss out on the greatest opportunity the internet offers: the whole world. The international company has to change sizes and tactics to fit in globally to meet consumer needs from several continents. It is unlikely the on-ground store would have to do this from one location.
Internet businesses have the promise of great returns because you can quickly and easily reach millions of customers worldwide. The downside is that if you send them the wrong message you lose them that much more quickly. You could switch from being an internet shirt company to an internet shirt warehouse before you even know what went wrong. For every millionaire there are millions more left in the dust.
