Housekeeping Uniforms: Clothing for a Vital Team of Workers

The clean and comfortable environments of hotels and motels don’t just happen. There is a hard-working staff that makes sure beds are made, floors are clean, and bathrooms properly stocked.  Facilities such as hospitals and rehab centers as well as large offices of all kinds maintain a pleasant and sanitary environment because they have a staff dedicated entirely to keep things that way. The housekeeping staff has their own special way of dressing. Housekeeping uniforms enable them to work comfortably and efficiently.

Housekeeping workers, whether they are cleaning hotel rooms or hospital rooms, need to wear clothing that will allow for free and easy movement. These workers are on their feet, moving about all the time. They do a great deal of bending and stretching and no inconsiderable amount of lifting and pulling.  Garb for those who keep things tidy and clean comes in a number of varieties. One type of comfortable uniform is a skirt. This one piece outfit is made of light material and does not cling to the body.  For a change of pace, or for women who simply are not fond of skirts, there are also two piece housekeeping outfits. One of the striking- and more stylish- tops for women housekeepers is the tunic. This long shirt, which extends somewhat past the waist of the pants worn with it, is often worn by women in everyday situations. To no degree, housekeepers, who often are viewed as comprising the bottom rung of the employment ladder, appreciate being clad in housekeeping uniforms that look as much like the same aesthetically pleasing clothing that everyday women wear as possible.

Both men and women of housekeeping staffs don aprons and use gloves. Gloves are a strictly functional part of housekeeping uniforms. But given the dust and dirt the housekeeping staff comes into contact with, they are careful to carry a pair of gloves with them as they make their rounds.  While most of the housekeeping staff of most facilities can appear to the casual observer to be females, there is no small number of males in the trade. They have their own requirements in housekeeping uniforms- beside the apparel items such as aprons and gloves that both sexes wear.

Male housekeepers wear comfortable shirts and pants, sometimes with vests. There are companies that sell a whole host of ready made garments for male housekeepers. Many facilities choose a line of housekeeping uniforms custom made for their staff. Indeed,  for  both female and male workers, it is common for a facility to have its name printed on  their garments. To keep a staff of housekeepers cheerful and improve their moral, it is wise for a business to order housekeeping uniforms that are as comfortable and pleasing to the eye as possible.  One way for a manager to ingratiate himself with the hard working, and under-appreciated housekeeping staff is to query as to what colors and contours they prefer for their work garments.
