Flame Resistant Shirts for Hazardous Environments
Do you work with or around fire? Are you a fireman, welder, or in any other profession where you would like to get flame resistant shirts that are stylish, comfortable, and won’t go up in smoke? There are shirts available that look like everyday shirts but they are chemically treated to resist fire. They can be combined with a coverall for added protection. You can choose from a short sleeved t-shirt, button down oxford or any other style you prefer to wear but all of these shirts can be treated to resist flame.
If you work in a profession that deals with hot oil that spits or open flame such as a cook this would be the shirt for you. The long sleeve flame resistant shirts look professional and can embroidered to be used as a uniform shirt but will protect your arms from splatter and other kitchen accidents that can leave burns on your arms, chest or abdomen. If the kitchen is too hot for long sleeves you can choose a short sleeve version that will still protect your chest and abdomen. This is also a good idea for any food service workers who enter the kitchen and are near the cooking areas. Flames and spitting oils are not selective in who gets burned.
If you work construction, do body work on cars, or just fiddle around the garage with a blow torch these are the ideal shirts for you. Flame resistant shirts can protect your upper body and come in many styles and colors, and for colder weather you can also get them fleece lined for extra warmth. Think of how many shirts you have with singe marks, burn holes, or have caught fire because of the type of work you do. How many times have you been burned in the course of doing your job?
While some professions are required by law to wear the coverall, some positions do not. You can always use the added protection of flame resistant shirts. Many race car drivers will wear such shirts under their coveralls as added protection. There are t-shirts and other short sleeve shirts that will fit under the coveralls that are comfortable and are still flame resistant. When working with fire any added protection is a plus. You can also choose different fabrics for your shirt: cotton, knit, jersey and cotton blends. These fabrics can give a different feel and fit for your shirt and your personal preferences can be found to meet your needs.
Do you find the coveralls you are forced to wear for protection uncomfortable, hot, bulky and just plain ugly? Flame resistant shirts will protect your upper body from flying sparks and spitting oil while being comfortable, stylish, and won’t go up in smoke. This does not mean that it will protect you from constant exposure to flame or protect you from an explosion, just that it means that the material of the shirt will resist igniting longer than non treated clothing.
