Company Apparel
Companies love free advertising. The more they can get out there the more they like it. There is no easier way for a company to get advertising into the general public than to have a line of company apparel that it either gives or sells to its employees and others who like the company. Think of Budweiser. How many Budweiser shirts have you seen today? Company apparel is usually the more dressy stuff so how many Budweiser polo shirts have you seen? Plenty. The fact is that apparel from the company serves two purposes, it advertises the company and it gives the employees apparel to wear for a company they are hopefully proud to work for.
When you go to a company function or a company conference meeting how many times have you been given all type of company emblazoned trinkets, hates, shirts or pens that have the company name on them? It is one of the most common ways of thanking employees and getting their name out. So companies give company apparel to the people most likely to wear it; the people who work for them. In fact, they will often give it to them and then have a designated day when everyone gets to wear it. For instance casual Fridays you can wear tee shirts but only if it is a company tee shirt.
Company apparel is sparing in most cases. They primarily center on shirts, sweat shirts, jackets and hats. The primary emphasis though is shirts. The variety of the shirt can depend on the company but the nicer the shirt the more expensive it is and the harder it is to give out to a very large organization. Tee shirts are very popular. Usually these will commemorate some type of date, deal or occasion. They are significantly cheaper and still get the job done.
The management staff of companies usually will opt to not wear tee shirts strictly for appearances purposes and in that case the polo or the long sleeve shirt is appropriate as company apparel for them. In fact many companies will give their hourly employees tee shirt after tee shirt and maybe once or twice a year give their management staff a polo, long sleeved or jacket to wear. Of course not all companies work this way but it is a common strategy for many. Employees usually like getting the shirts and the company gets its advertising and good will with the employees.
Hats are also very popular company apparel. The majority of the time it will be a baseball style cap but in some cases it might be a visor or visor type cap. Sometimes (like at company picnics) the employees are given a choice and can pick the one they are most comfortable with. All in all giving out apparel (or even selling it to the general public) is a good strategy for any company. The visibility that they get with the clothes and the good will they get from the employees are two very good benefits from something that in the larger scope is not that expensive for them.
