You do not have to pay top dollar for all of your business clothing needs.  There are several ways you can cut wardrobe expenses and still meet the office dress code. One of those ways is by buying cheap business shirts.  One rationale for buying the less expensive shirts is that if you wear a suit coat most of the shirt is covered anyway and more money can be invested in a nice tie which is more visible anyway.  Also, by buying cheaper shirts, you can expand your wardrobe to include more variety and color to the otherwise run of the mill basic white button down shirt.

A possible drawback to buying cheap business shirts is that they will not wear as well or hold a press. The shirts will be more likely to wrinkle and not iron well giving them a duller look.  They will also wear out faster from washing and drying.  The collars will likely begin to fray relatively quickly compared to higher quality shirts.  Stains are much less likely to come out of the cheaper fabric and could significantly raise the cost of buying replacement shirts very frequently.  This could counteract the savings you initially experience when buying the shirt cheaper in the first place.

Another possible drawback to wearing cheap business shirts is how well they fit in with the office norm and what the customer expects.  Most people in the office can tell right away the difference between the lower quality shirts and the better ones. You don’t want to be labeled as being disrespectful to the office or the industry by dressing at an inappropriate level.  Customers also have an expectation of professional dress for your office and industry. You cannot jeopardize customer confidence in your abilities or your company’s abilities to deliver a service by wearing inferior clothes. It has been said that the clothes make the man. That is especially true for companies.

If you choose to go ahead and purchase cheap business shirts, you should make sure you shop around for the absolute best price. If you are going to go cheap you might as well go all the way. Just remember to compare exact brand and style shirts between retailers whenever possible.  You may want to investigate alternative labels as well.  Many name brand items are sold for less under different names so they can attract a different market segment.  There may be bargains on shirts which are cheap b ut not necessarily of low quality.

Another way to buy cheap business shirts is to by the wholesale.  The keys to this step are to find the wholesaler closest to the manufacturer and to compile the largest order you can.  The closer you are to the manufacturer in the distribution chain the lower your price will be. Additionally, the larger or more bulk your order is the deeper the discount will be per shirt.  This is only true of wholesalers. Retailers generally do not give bulk discounts unless they are having a sale.
