Not every shirt has to be a conservative top of the line sophisticated looking shirt.  Casual business shirts are also acceptable.  There are some considerations that need to be addressed, however. One area of concern is the office norm and environment.  If the office has a casual feel the shirts will be well accepted as professional dress. Casual business shirts can add a splash of color and fun to the otherwise all business environment of the office.  One thing to make sure of is that the employee understands that just because the office dress changes the work expectation remains the same.  Casual day does not mean a day off.  On the other hand, an infusion of energy and color could actually improve production. Employees who feel comfortable can actually work better at times. Casual dress code days can be used as an incentive to improve the production of the staff during the week to earn the casual day. Workers get bored easily and management needs to create ways to make work more interesting.

Wearing casual business shirts may make some employees begin to think a bit more creatively because they will feel different at work than they usually do.  If the office seems to be stagnant in its approach to problem solving changing the dress code for while or even for one special session could give you the energy you need to overcome the road block to a given problem.  Workers feel more confident when they feel comfortable and confidence may bring out ideas from people who may have otherwise remained silent.

Casual business shirts can be purchased from most retail outlets and can come in many styles and colors.  The polo shirt is the most common alternative choice to the traditional button down dress shirt.  Not all business shirts have to be white and only given color by the tie selection.  Casual shirts can come in neon colors, bold colors, or pastels. Clear guidelines should be given by management to avoid misinterpreting the term casual. Keep in mind that customers are also influenced by the way the staff looks and nothing should be worn that will jeopardize the customer’s image of the company.

Casual business shirts can also be purchased in bulk preferably from a clothing wholesaler.  If a bulk order can be entered the cost per shirt normally goes down: the larger the order, the lower the price.  It is important to research the wholesaler to make sure they carry good quality shirts that fir the office environment.  It is also important that the order be double checked for size and quantity accuracy.  If the shirts are going to be personalized, then the names have to be double checked as well.
