Business Shirts for Women
Business shirts for women offer some unique challenges for the business woman of today. One would think that in a modern progressive world all workers are treated equally, but that is still not the case in many business environments. Women still have to work under a different standard of performance, but also one of dress. They are expected to morph into the perfect hybrid of pretty and professional. This is a daunting task in a world that requires men to where the same style white business shirt day in and day out, maybe rotating in a patterned tie once in a while. Women on the other hand have to balance business skirts, with business suits, with matching business shirts for women that are professional without being to mannish.
Business shirts for women have undergone many changes over the years. In decades past, women were adorned with ruffles down the front and fluffy collars. They ended up looking like moms going to church no matter what job they had or what title they held in the company. If a woman did away with the ruffles and wore more form fitting shirt that revealed she actually had breasts and she was labeled a gold digger trying to marry the boss or sleep her way to the top no matter what her job was.
Next, man-like shirts started to dominate the business shirts for women market. These shirts were designed to look strong and command respect. They were the antithesis of the form fitting outfits of years past. So, now there could be no accusations about sleeping with the boss. Instead, they were labeled lesbians and accused of sleeping with their own secretaries. There seemed to be no answer for what business shirts for women should look like.
And still today, there is, but no one real standard guiding business shirts for women; however, things are relaxing a bit. Women now have very acceptable options at their disposal. In most offices they are allowed to look like women and still get respect. As long as they don’t go the Erin Brockovich route they can earn the respect they need to do their jobs and not be judged on their appearance. But neither are they expected to look like their male counterparts. The change has been more in the acceptance of the fact that females can be business people. A woman can do a job and still look like a woman.
The ironic part is that for many years the biggest critics of business shirts for women were women themselves. Much like any minority women who went to work were looked at as traitors to their gender by women who believed a woman’s place was in the home. These were the people who pressure on the working woman to wear ruffles and be “girly” while working in a man’s world. They were threatened with not being female anymore if they didn’t take with them the vestige clothing of the traditional homemaker. Business shirts for women have come a long way, baby.
