Cleaning Leather Coats

If you have ever looked at getting a leather coat dry cleaned, you understand the cost often associated with this task. If you have a “friend” who can help you out, you are in luck… but if you are on a budget and cannot afford the dollars its going to cost to get that favorite leather coat dry cleaned, then you may want to try these tricks.

TIP: Always test the cleaning method on a small part of your leather coat first!

Keep leather coats OUT of the sun. Sun has a drying affect on leather… this is not a good thing when it comes to your coats.

But a soft cloth and regularly use the dry soft cloth on your leather coat. I like using saddle soap on my leather coats and its amazingly beautiful – and inexpensive!

To remove spots, simply place a simple cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and rub gently. You will find this is not going to work on every stain, but there are other options…

For a spot, try a non-oily cuticle removed – this is not the same as nail polish remover – and leave on overnight. Wipe with a soft cloth the next morning.

One of the easiest spot removers is made by mixing one part lemon juice with one part cream of tartar. This will generally get most spots, but if it does not, leave it on for a few hours before wiping clean with a soft, clean cloth.

Removing water spots is easy! Simply redampen the area and dry with a blow dryer on the gentle setting. Never ever allow your coat to dry in the sun.
